Getting started
We want starting therapy to feel straightforward, with enough time to understand what has brought you here and what you’d like from the work.
Tell us a little about what you’re looking for and whether you have a preference for working with Emma or Ilka in therapy, or joining a group workshop.
You’re welcome to choose your therapist. Occasionally we might suggest that one of us is particularly well suited to what you’re bringing, but the decision about who you work with is always yours.
This is a no-obligation chance to talk through what’s brought you here, ask any questions, and get a feel for whether we’re the right fit — before you commit to anything.
If you’re interested in therapy, we’ll send you a referral form and a short therapy preferences questionnaire (C-NIP) to complete before your initial consultation.
These give us some useful context and help us understand how you might prefer to work, so we can spend more of our time together focusing on what matters to you.
Your first appointment is a longer session (75 minutes), offered at a reduced introductory rate. We’ll take time to understand what has brought you to therapy and what you’d like to get from it. Depending on what’s relevant to you, we might explore your medical and sexual history, relationships past and present, and any experiences that might help us understand the wider picture.
We’ll also set some initial aims for therapy and think together about what successful therapy would look like.
If we agree to work together following your initial consultation, we ask clients to begin with eight weekly 50-minute sessions. After that, we can continue weekly or move to fortnightly sessions if that feels more useful.
While everyone’s needs and pace are different, we generally recommend allowing around 12–15 sessions for the work to develop and have meaningful impact.
There’s no fixed course of therapy or predetermined end point. We’ll regularly review the work together, including whether we’re moving towards the aims we agreed and whether the way we’re working continues to feel useful.
Psychosexual therapy can be active and practical. Alongside what happens in the therapy room, we may agree things for you to notice, practise or experiment with between sessions. Engaging with this part of the work can be an important part of creating change.
Sessions are available in person in King’s Cross and Crystal Palace, London, or online via Zoom.

Our fees don’t only cover the 50 minutes we’re together. They allow us to run a safe and sustainable therapeutic practice — including regular clinical supervision, ongoing training and CPD, professional registration and insurance, secure record keeping, the spaces we work from, and the time we spend thinking about and supporting our work outside the therapy room.
We also deliberately keep some lower-cost, concession spaces available, because we want therapy to be accessible to people on different incomes — and we personally absorb that difference so it doesn’t come at the expense of the practice.
